As the days get shorter and the temperatures start to chill, we naturally are cozying up more indoors and pulling out our favorite throws and pillows to get comfy for winter. Pillows and throws are some of the most versatile decor pieces in our arsenal. Today we're sharing some of our top tips for styling decorative pillows and throws around your home. Take a look! Draw in Accent Colors from Around the Room When working with colorful designs as often as we do, it's important to balance the rich tones throughout the space. We love using throws and pillows to bring in some extra color or bring out the color from other styling pieces. In this Chelsea Penthouse, we used the pillows to bring out some of the accent colors from the painting above the couch, like the vibrant green and red. We've got some beautiful Turkish pillows and throws in our shop that pulls out some of the loveliest shades of purple and pink to brighten up any room! Bring in Color to a Neutral Room by Styling Decorative Pillows and Throws Another great way to try styling decorative pillows and throws is to add color in an otherwise neutral room. This sunroom right off the master in our client's Fairhaven home was just begging for a bit of color- especially with all the natural light! The little punches of pink make all the difference....

During this crazy time, I think we have all come to have a newfound appreciation for spending time with our families and loved ones. Family is so important, so today we wanted to talk about ways to optimize your home for big family gatherings when it comes to design. Take a look! Large Family Dining Rooms I think this one is one of the most important ways to create a welcoming environment for your whole family. Family meals are such a special time- even if it's just a Thursday night and not a holiday. When designing your home, make sure there's space for a long dining table with plenty of seating. For our West Village clients, they wanted plenty of space to entertain and host loved ones- so we made sure to incorporate a dining space that could fit up to 14 people. A long family-style table is the perfect way to make use of any narrower rooms in your existing home. Multiple Living Rooms for Large Family Homes A standard living room can comfortably seat around 6-8 people depending on the layout. However, with large groups, having multiple living rooms can make a huge difference in the comfort and noise level of the home. When designing your home, you can keep these living spaces close to each other to allow for everyone to feel closer- or you can space them out around the home to diffuse noise and have...
Here at Kati Curtis Design we're off to an amazing start for 2018 and have so many new interior design projects to share this coming year! While I'm excited about new work, I'm really more excited about the relationships with our clients. We have everyone from a young couple starting a new life together, to a couple with older kids from Chile who want to spend more of their spare time in NYC. Working closely together we can create something amazing and perfect for these incredible families. For me its all about making a difference in people's lives! (and beautiful wallpaper of course....:)) 1st on deck is a new construction project in Rye, NY for an amazing young couple starting a new life outside of NYC in the suburbs closer to His family. Building a house from scratch is a 1st for these two, and while kids aren't in the picture right now, we're designing the house to eventually be family friendly. They currently have an odd-couple pair of pooches - a husky and a toy poodle who we're already designing for! Next we have an incredible old house in Wilmington, DE that we're de-bachelorizing for a guy who now has a wife and 2 (totally adorable) young kids. There was a lot of brown... in the old design, so we're lightening, brightening, and adding our signature color and pattern to give the home a bit of a new identity....
Big changes here at NYC Interior Design Firm Nirmada - we have a new name and are soon to have a new address. Nirmada Interior Architectural Design is now....KATI CURTIS DESIGN. Our new branding was designed by the incredibly talented Cooper House, and it couldn't be more perfect. Personally, I am having a hard time with the name change, but everyone else seems to think it's long overdue. Of course, we have to thank Strohl and Co., our PR Firm extraordinaire for the nudge. Apparently I am the brand - so the interior design firm has to have my name... Well, I might be the brand - but I certainly couldn't do it alone and I have to give a shout out of thanks to Carolyn, Ira, Walter, Todd, and Anne for their brilliance and support. It's a team effort. Other than the name, you can still expect the same professional, high end design services we've always provided. That will NEVER change! We will also be moving to new digs in May, so update your address books accordingly. If you haven't changed over to our new email, don't worry - everything will be forwarded thanks to the super-intelligent coding done by Tim Cooper at Cooper House. We'd love to hear your thoughts about our new brand and look! xo, KC
